contending parties who were remarkable for their candour and moderation;
but it was opposed by the violent and obstinate, who complained that it
was injurious to the honour and authority of the most holy council of
Chalcedon. Hence arose new contests and new divisions not less
deplorable than those which this decree was intended to suppress. The
Catholics opposed it with all their strength; and it was condemned in
form by Pope Felix II.
